Hello Everyone. My name is Amber Michaud.
I am so excited to be opening this studio and offering this unique experience to the St. Paul and surrounding area. I have practiced yoga for most of my adult life and fell in love with aerial arts in 2018 when I moved to Prince George and found a local studio who offered it all! I practiced and attended classes frequently before life lead me to move back to Alberta, when I did I ordered all the equipment and continued on my own knowing that this is what I wanted to do some day. While there was a part of me that was not ready for that move back it was an integral part of my journey that aloud me to be closer to my family and expand it as I grew my relationship with my now husband.
Just as many of us did in 2020 my health hit a bit of a rough patch and for 2 years I struggled with being able to maintain the exercises and routines I had worked hard to build for a little over 2 years and then had a change in careers that made it difficult to get back into it. In 2024 I made the decision to start perusing it again. I struggled with feelings of starting back a square one and questioned myself a lot during this journey but found such an amazing community of people who helped me get back on track, reminded me the importance of taking a step back and enjoying all the parts of my journey and finding the lessons in the lolls of life and using them to build my self better then I ever have been! Then the beginning of 2025 came and I made the big decision to dedicate myself to this vision and dream that has been so vivid in my mind for many years and commit to the process of getting it moving forward into reality.
That bring us to now! I took my exam and got my certification passed with flying colours and built my studio space in my basement giving it the breath of life to be home to the that will grow into what I truly know will be an amazing space for others. My intent with this studio is to give people a space to get away form the hustle and bustle so they can have those moments to connect to themselves ,build a sense of community that is a support foundation and help improve the overall health and wellbeing of those who walk thru my door.
I am so excited to meet each one of you and cannot wait to expand and build this endeavor to what I know it has to offer.
What is Aerial Yoga?
Aerial Yoga is a branch of yoga that combines traditional yoga practice with a modern style and uses a length of fabric called a silk hammock to support the body and limbs during poses ( also know as asanas) and inversions to help ease into them and relax better. Many people find aerial yoga easier because of the extra support their bodies get from the fabric.
Is Aerial Yoga safe?
Absolutely! Here at Feet Off the Ground Studios we prioritize safety. All equipment is rated to hold well above 1100 pounds and you will be guided step by step how to properly get in and out of poses with additional support as needed through out the class. You are not required to do anything out of your comfort zone and if building confidence is what you need I will always be available to help guide you to appropriate classes and build you an individual plan
Is aerial yoga good for every one?
Aerial yoga is a great option for many people! I am striving to have and environment that is all inclusive and can accommodate all comfort levels with personalized group bookings of 4-5 persons if that is what you prefer. Feet Off the ground studios also makes sure that everyone knows there is no need to push past what your body is capable of and emphasizes progress with practice.
That being said just like with most exercise and wellness options there are some people who are no recommended if they are pregnant, had a recent surgery or hernia, have high/low blood pressure, glaucoma, vertigo, osteoporosis, weak bones, carpel tunnel or have had Botox with in 4 hours before a class. If you have any of these or other conditions that you feel may be a problem with this class especially in regards to hanging upside down make sure to have a talk with your instructor before class.
What benefits does Aerial Yoga have?
Aerial yoga has all the benefits of traditional yoga such as improving balance and flexibility, helping with core strength, aiding/stimulating many of our bodies internal functions, breathing exercises and calming the mind and also has the added benefits of being easier on joints as your body is supported thought the class. There are also many added benefits from inversions including decompression of the spine, stimulated production and movement of spinal fluid, having positive effects on our nervous system and stimulating and aiding in drainage of the lymphatic system.
Will you be offering only Aerial yoga?
Everyone has to start somewhere! For now my studio will be offering primarily Aerial Yoga and some special events with collaborations with other local wellness practitioners. I will be expanding my offerings as time goes on and I complete courses and earn other certifications. This is only the beginning.
